Adult Occupational Therapy Services

Growth and skill development doesn’t stop after high school. That’s why at Lakeshore Affirmative Therapy we work with both neurodivergent children AND adults. Adults also deserve to learn new skills and find new strategies in order to fully participate in their meaningful daily activities. Our neurodiversity affirming and strengths based approach will look very different than any therapy you may have received as a child. Read more below about what to expect at your Initial OT Evaluation and Therapy Sessions.

Initial Occupational Therapy Evaluation

An initial occupational therapy evaluation is the first step you take before beginning ongoing occupational therapy treatment sessions. The purpose of the evaluation is learn about you; your learning style, your unique strengths, and your current challenges. At the end of the evaluation we will collaborate on client-centered goals to guide ongoing therapy sessions.

Areas included in our Occupational Therapy Evaluation:

  • sensory profile

  • executive functioning skills

  • current participation in daily activities and routines

  • areas of interest and strengths

  • motor planning and coordination skills

  • identifying preferred methods of learning

  • establishing client-centered goals

Adult Occupational Therapy Sessions

Below are some examples of the occupations an OT could address for adult clients:

  • Daily Living Skills: hygiene, cooking, cleaning, laundry, grocery shopping, managing appointments, and paying bills

  • Hobbies/Leisure: maintaining friendships without masking, exploring new interests and hobbies, traveling

  • Work: how to advocate for workplace accommodations, preventing autistic burn-out, navigating public transportation or driving

We can also work together as you navigate new roles and routines in adulthood such as becoming a parent, college student, caregiver, romantic partner or employee.

Reaching these OT goals often looks like:

  • Identifying and finding accommodations for sensory needs

  • Addressing any fine motor challenges

  • Implementing executive functioning supports into daily routines

  • Addressing concerns with nervous system regulation

  • Discussing strategies to prevent autistic burn out and meltdowns

  • Yes- We are in-network with BCBS PPO and Blue Choice Plans.

We also provide superbills to facilitate reimbursement for out of network plans.

  • You do not need a formal diagnosis in order to receive OT services. Formal diagnosis, self diagnosis, or none of the above are all okay!

  • An estimate will be provided at your initial occupational therapy evaluation. This number fluctuates depending on how many goals are identified during the evaluation.

That being said on average, our clients reach their goals in 12 to 16 sessions.

  • Most of our adult clients choose to do virtual therapy, but in-home therapy is an option too depending on your location.
